Joseph T. Hobson, Esq. - Florida Defense Lawyer

Joseph T. Hobson
Joseph T. Hobson has been winning cases in Florida for twenty years, always as a defense attorney, never as a prosecutor. That means you will have an attorney who has never tried to convict a person in your position.
“The job of a criminal defense attorney is to aggressively exhaust every possible means or avenue of an acquittal.” - Joseph T. Hobson
As an undergraduate at Boston College, Joe established the Free University of Boston College, an extracurricular non-academic course curriculum. The Free University offered learning opportunities in everything from automotive mechanics to ballroom dancing. Joe graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in History and continued on to Boston College Law School. At BC Law, Joe was elected student representative as a first year law student – a position usually held by an upperclassman. As a second year student, he drafted a constitution for a Law Student Association. He campaigned for its passage and became its first President. The LSA of Boston College stands to this day as testament to the vision commitment and energy of Joseph T. Hobson.
“One of the many things I learned from the various study groups I participated in during law school is the importance of taking a body of knowledge, deconstructing it, and then reassembling it. You simply must have that facile and multi-faceted understanding of the law to effectively apply it to the facts of your case. In modern times this is ‘thinking outside the box.’ In my opinion you should never be boxed in by your thinking." - Joseph T. Hobson
Upon graduation from law school, Joe focused on politics and government. He served as an administrative assistant to Pennsylvania State Representative, Sam Morris, and as a Political Consultant in Pennsylvania. He was the youngest party chairperson of the Tredyffrin Democratic Committee in which capacity he recruited candidates and plotted electoral strategies for a party outnumbered during that time. He coordinated and helped deliver Chester County to Senator Gary Hart in the 1984 Pennsylvania Presidential Primary. Later that same year he relocated to Florida to dedicate himself wholly to his career as a courtroom lawyer.
“To know the law is really just a start, and a rather small part in the actual process of legal knowledge. The social background behind the law and its passage as well as how Judges and prosecutors tend to interpret and apply it matter just as much.”
- Joseph T. Hobson
Joseph T. Hobson gained extensive legal experience clerking for the Sarasota Law Firm of Dickinson, O'Riordan, Gibbons, Quale, and Shieldaince. His performance on behalf of this Sarasota Law Firm caught the attention of nearby Arcadia Circuit Judge, Vincent T. Hall, who selected him as his first law clerk when he was appointed by Governor Bob Graham to the Second District Court of Appeals in 1985.
